Jord's avatar, JordithWho am I?

Born February 12, 1979, standing at 5' 8", and weighing in at 170 lbs, I like to think of myself as a relatively balanced individual. Well... balanced as I can get. I'm a self-admitted oddball, liking the stranger things in life with my own eccentric tastes. Early on in my life, I turned to art and really haven't grown to love anything quite as much as the visual experience. Geek would be the correct term, I would think. Had a pretty typical geek's childhood, getting picked on and being awkward in sports, leading a relatively sheltered life. I remained innocent until high school, really, where reality helped slap me around into becoming a more complete individual. I identified myself with my Japanese heritage early on, even though I don't look Japanese at all, and I've long believed in the principles of bushido, at least the more appropriate ones for everyday life. Despite this, I am also a faithful Christian, and if you're wondering why I wanted the main character in this comic to be Wiccan... well.. let's face it; it's just a comic, and not real, so why not? I graduated from college with honours, and, as expected, my diploma didn't do me one bit of good in searching for a job in my chosen field. Working in a copy shop for six months and since as a clerk in a corner store started to make me rather bitter and jaded, and I realized that I needed an outlet. I've long toyed with the idea of actually producing a comic, but didn't believe that it was worth my efforts, until now. Entertaining people and telling good stories, that's what I really want to do with my artistic skills, and it's done my soul a world of good to be able to think of myself as an artist again, instead of just a clerk. I'm currently in a long-term relationship with the lovely and talented Sylvia Baker who has kept me on a steady and true course through all my doubts and self-depreciating moments... take a look at her work, seriously...

Where does my inspiration come from?

Largely from the people in my life, particularly Sylvia. She really keeps me going and is my navigator and intelligence gatherer when it comes to the comic industry. Other than that? Going through art school, I met some very interesting people who have had a large impact on my life. Thankfully, I've managed to stay in contact with some of them, but it wasn't until college that I really made sure that I didn't drift apart from my friends. The Anissa character, in fact, is based on several people who I have known and know in my life, as are the Melissa, Sonya, and Hiroki characters.

What are my hobbies?

Besides the obvious, and in no particular order, I enjoy action and adventure movies, MXC, Junkyard Wars, Iron Chef, Robot Wars and Battlebots, anime, hockey, rollerblading, weight lifting, martial arts and karaoke. I also enjoy retro-video games and roleplaying. I don't read as much as I'd like to, most of it being textbooks and whatnot, though I have enjoyed several books on martial arts philosophies.

Who are my idols?

Hmmm... if we're talking about art, I'd have to say Kevin Pottenger, Linda Bergkvist, Susan Rankin, Stan Sakai, and Yutaka Izubuchi. Anything non-art related, probably Bruce Lee, Terry Fox, Jackie Chan, the BareNakedLadies, and all of my art teachers at Beal.

What do I do on the comic?

Cleanup, story outlines, ink and colour.

How can I be contacted?

By email at jordandoggie@yahoo.com or via ICQ at 104408190.
